It is the church for the Vangsnes parish which is part of the Sogn prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1861 using plans drawn up by the local Vicar Harald Ulrik Sverdrup. The church seats about 261 people.
